According to Ballon d’Or awarding France Football, Messi begged Neymar to return to Barcelona after Barcelona’s 4-0 defeat by Liverpool in the Champions League semi-final last season.
Reports say that Messi said to Neymar, “Only together can we win the Champions League. I want you to come back. In 2 years I will leave and you will take over.”
Messi’s contract with Barcelona expires in mid-2021. This means that Messi could potentially only have 4 more Clásico’s left in his career.
